Sugaring

Sugaring Packages &
Loyalty Rewards

Body Sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a completely natural paste made from lemon, sugar and water.

It looks like honey, but is even thicker. The paste is molded onto your skin against the direction of the hair growth, then quickly flicked off - removing the sugar paste, extracting your unwanted hair and collecting dead skin cells.

This ancient hand technique that allows for the hair to be extracted in the direction of its growth means less breakage and discomfort for you!

It's more sanitary and reduces waste because there are no sticks or strips. After your service the paste and gloves are discarded and you are left with beautifully smooth skin.

What Makes Sugaring so Great?

So many things!

Pre/Post Sugar Care

  • hair can be removed at 1/2" - usually 14 days of growth for best results (the length of a grain of rice)

  • any pigment or type of hair can be sugared.

  • safe for sensitive skin types.

  • removes ONLY dead skin along with unwanted hair.

  • regular extraction at an  1/8" (the Anagen Phase of hair growth)  leads to permanent hair loss. When hair is extracted at that length it pulls some of the follicle wall out with it each time eventually causing it to collapse.

  • made from sugar, lemon juice and water so it is perfect for every skin type; no petroleum products here!

  • does not need to be heated like wax so it will NEVER burn you!

  • hair is removed in the natural direction of growth which eliminates breakage, unnecessary discomfort, irritation and ingrown hairs.

  • eco-friendly and biodegradable.

  • sanitary and individually portioned- no chance of double dipping sticks!

FAQ

Does sugaring hurt?

If this is your first time sugaring and you have been previously using a razor, your first treatment will be the most uncomfortable. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but most people find that sugaring hurts less than waxing (especially on the face). This is because sugaring does NOT adhere to live skin cells and it is removed in the direction of hair growth. Sugaring weakens the hair root making it easier to remove the hair with each treatment. The more sugaring you receive the less it hurts because the hair grows back thinner and less dense. Less hair = less pain. If you have a low pain tolerance, you may take Tylenol, 30 minutes before your appointment.

02

Is sugaring permanent?

It is important to time your appointments. Regular extraction at 1/8 inch (1st stage of hair growth) leads to permanent hair loss. When hair is extracted at the right length it pulls some of the follicle wall out with each time. Each consecutive sugaring treatment results in easier removal of the root, as the newly growing hair begins higher in the follicle – closer to the surface of the skin. Since the hair is actively growing, you will immediately see results – thinner, finer hair growth and eventually, lack of the production of new hair growth. The follicle will eventually collapse and stop producing new hair growth which will lead to permanent hair loss.

03

Can I get sugaring while using Retin-A?

Unfortunately no. If you are currently using Retin-A or any other topical cream for acne on your face we would not be able to sugar anywhere on your face. However… it is still ok to get any other areas done. If you are on Accutane or have been using Accutane in the last 6 months we cannot sugar you at all. This can cause SEVERE lifting of the skin that could damage and scar. For a more extensive look at contraindications click here

04

I have a big event/vacation, when should I book?

Try to get in at least 3 treatments. If not, it’s ok, however, if we can create consistency, our results will last longer.

05

I used to shave, but have let my hair grow & just had a bikini treatment, why do I have stubble?

If you have been a frequent shaver previously (even if you have let your hair grow for a few weeks before your sugaring treatment), shaving can cause hair re-growth to be uneven, in which some hairs can be too short to be removed with sugaring & may result in the appearance of stubble after your first treatment. Ideally, all your hairs should lay flat on your skin to achieve the best results, so some of these shorter hairs may not be removed sugaring for the first time. Please have patience and let the shorter stubble grow (no shaving or plucking between treatments please).

06

How long does the hair need to be?

¼ inch – that’s about the length of a grain of rice. Depending on how fast your hair grows, usually 10-12 days after your last shave. If longer than ½ inch, trimming before your appointment can make your sugaring session more comfortable.

07

How often do I need to have a sugaring treatment?

With regular sugaring treatments, your hair will grow back more sparse, fine, and lighter in colour. Sugaring can lead to permanency. Typically rebooking would look like: Face/Underarms/Bikini every 3-4 weeks Legs/Back/Chest every 4-6 weeks Your practitioner can help decide the best amount of time for you after your appointment!

08

How can I prevent ingrown hairs?

There are a few basic things you can do to reduce and get rid of ingrown hairs. First and foremost, exfoliate! Using a natural bristle body brush, exfoliating cloth or brush, or an exfoliating scrub: you’ll keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under your skin. The second step is to keep your skin healthy and moisturized. A good rule of thumb is, whenever your skin gets wet (after every shower or bath) moisturize. In some cases, we may recommend an ingrown serum. For pre/post care click here

09

Why did I break out after treatment?

There are several factors that can contribute to breaking out following a treatment. If you break out immediately following your treatment, within 24 hours, it could be a couple of things. One is the body can have a histamine reaction to removal of the hair, this is common on the face and back typically but can be minimized by taking an antihistamine prior to your appointment. It could also be due to not following your aftercare recommendations. Chances are these reactions will subside and not occur as often or at all with regular maintenance appointments, allowing your skin to become accustomed to hair removal.

10

I'm pregnant can I get sugared?

Many pregnant sugaring users still get treatments. I know how hard it can be as your body and belly grows bigger and I’m here to help! I will have you lay in a safe and comfortable position and still successfully perform your treatment. There is no reason to stop sugaring treatments when you are pregnant, but please remember, every pregnancy is different so ask your doctor! Plus sugar is a much more body-safe product than petroleum-based wax products.

11

How old do I need to be?

If you are under the age of 16, you must have a parent/guardian accompany you to your appointment and they must sign a waiver. Sugar paste is so gentle and natural that it is perfect for sensitive skin.

12
